Care for a Dalmatian

{{#switch: |User talk = Thanks for starting an article on wikiHow! I just wanted to let you know that it's been categorized as a stub, meaning that it's a good outline (and we're glad you started it!), but still has some room to grow. We want to be sure that the article has enough step-by-step details in it so that a person reading it can accomplish this task from start to finish.

Do you have any more information you can add? You can also get details from other sites, as long as you put them in your own words and reference them. Either way, it's off to a good start. It'll be great to see how it develops! If there is anything I can do to help you expand the article or get around on wikiHow, please let me know!|Discussion = This template should be applied to the article itself, not its discussion page.|Image = {{#if:|{{|2=|date=2008-02-21}}|

Dalmatians are dogs that are from Dalmatia (a province of Croatia). They are famous for being associated with firemen, the Dodie Smith novels, and the Disney movies. They also make great pets.

Steps

  1. Train your dog. Don’t forget to reward him/her when they do it right. Try not to use treats much and use praise and attention instead, so your Dalmatian won't get overweight.
  2. Find a good veterinarian who is familiar with Dalmatians. (See warnings)
  3. Buy your dog the right type of food. Avoid leaving out toxic foods when your Dalmation is in the kitchen/dining room.
  4. Get a toy. Try to take your dog to a store and show them what you think they would like. Squeak toys in front of them.
  5. Buy a bed or blanket, unless you are letting your Dalmatian sleep on your bed.
  6. Make sure to provide a food bowl and water bowl.
  7. Take your dog out for regular exercise (a walk).

Tips

  • You might want to neuter your dog.
  • Dalmatians usually have blue or brown eyes, if your dog has a blue and a brown eye, it does not matter.

Warnings

  • Dalmatians are often deaf and need special care with their ears.
  • Dalmatians can get kidney or bladder stones! Try to not feed them animal by-products
  • Pay attention to your dog! If they are acting differently, whining, or not urinating, consider rushing them to your vet.
  • Don't train your dog on your own, find a training class.
  • If your dog gets bladder of kidney stones, your dalmatian will need expensive medication, such as allopurinol.
