Care for an Obese Relative

From Tips and Steps

{{#switch: |User talk = Thanks for starting an article on wikiHow! I just wanted to let you know that it's been categorized as a stub, meaning that it's a good outline (and we're glad you started it!), but still has some room to grow. We want to be sure that the article has enough step-by-step details in it so that a person reading it can accomplish this task from start to finish.

Do you have any more information you can add? You can also get details from other sites, as long as you put them in your own words and reference them. Either way, it's off to a good start. It'll be great to see how it develops! If there is anything I can do to help you expand the article or get around on wikiHow, please let me know!|Discussion = This template should be applied to the article itself, not its discussion page.|Image = {{#if:|{{|2=|date=2009-03-27}}|

If you are in the situation of caring for an obese relative, than you may need to make some adjustments in their, as well as your own, lifestyle.

Steps

  1. Try to wean them slowly off the disgusting fatty foods. This may take a long time to do, but it will be worth it.
  2. Introduce them to healthier things homemade sandwiches (ham, turkey, etc.), vegetables, and fruit.
  3. Soon, start introducing more soups and salads with meat. Don't just feed them salad though - they will not appreciate this!
  4. Once they are comfortable with this, take red and processed meats out of their diet, and replace them with chicken, turkey, and fish. These are lighter, healthier meats.

Tips

  • Tell them you love them - and MEAN it!
  • Be prepared to wheel them around if they are very obese.

Warnings

  • Don't let them pig out too much even on many healthy foods, except for vegetables and fruits. Too much of a good thing defeats the purpose!
  • If you don't help they may die.
