Look After Your Pet

From Tips and Steps

{{#switch: |User talk = Thanks for starting an article on wikiHow! I just wanted to let you know that it's been categorized as a stub, meaning that it's a good outline (and we're glad you started it!), but still has some room to grow. We want to be sure that the article has enough step-by-step details in it so that a person reading it can accomplish this task from start to finish.

Do you have any more information you can add? You can also get details from other sites, as long as you put them in your own words and reference them. Either way, it's off to a good start. It'll be great to see how it develops! If there is anything I can do to help you expand the article or get around on wikiHow, please let me know!|Discussion = This template should be applied to the article itself, not its discussion page.|Image = {{#if:|{{|2=|date=2009-04-14}}|

Sometimes you'll find you'll have no time to look after your pet or don't really know how...this article will tell you everything you need to know!

Steps

  1. Buy stuff before you get the pet. Buy food that is made for the animal, a place to contain, collar and bedding. If you have no time for your pet or can't take it out for fresh air simply because you're busy, buy fun stuff! A wheel for mice and hamsters. Places to climb for gecko and lizards. Balls of catnip for cats. Squeaky toys for dogs and mirrors or things that hang down for birds.
  2. Have daily routines to feed your pet. Make sure you give it the right food. Dogs can't have chocolate or grapes, mice get sick from eating cheese and there is a difference between rabbit food and hamster food. Geckos eat living food like grubs and crickets. If you are going away on holidays make sure someone you trust can take care of it for you.
  3. Give the animals space. Get your hamsters and mice big cages. Expand your gecko's cage after a few years. Give dogs running space.
  4. Exercise the animal. If it is a hamster or another little rodent, make sure it has a wheel to run on, and when you are cleaning a cage, put it in the ball! For dogs, never forget to walk them. For cats, always play with them with maybe string or catnip toys. You get the idea.
  5. Train your pet. You always need to train a dog to sit, stay, etc. But for other animals its a bit tricky. If you think you can do it, try training a cat. Rodents and rabbits are a bit easier, a bit like training very tiny dogs. If you have other friends with pets, try to see who's pet can do the most tricks.

Tips

  • Buy a booklet. Don't take information on the internet for granted, as it may not come from a informative source.
  • Don't be tricked by TV gimmicks.
  • When buying your pet, make sure it isn't sick.

Warnings

  • If your pet begins to move slowly, sleep in places without bedding or just not act the norm: bring it to the vet!. This is a sign that your pet is getting sick and may require some extra needs. If you do nothing, it could possibly pass away.
  • Don't get angry at your pet. Small pets can get afraid of you.
