Resign when Your Boss Refuses to Accept Your Resignation
From Tips and Steps
You've finally had it with your job. After marching right into your boss's office, you come out awe-faced. Why? The guy won't even let you resign!
Steps
Find a time to talk to your boss. Make sure there's no nosy co-workers there ready to spread gossip. This is between you and your boss ONLY.
When you talk to your boss, don't go pointing fingers. Get your boss to give you a reason for why he won't let you resign. Is it money? Or maybe emotional reasons.
If it's about his emotions, think about your relationship with your boss. Are you guys best friends? (And knew each other since 1st grade?) If so, just have a heart to heart with him. If he's really your friend, he'll let you resign.
Maybe your boss can't afford to let you resign. Maybe you're a major asset to the company. It's also your boss's job to try to keep you to stay. If you refuse to stay again, then they should let you leave. Don't accuse them of ruining your life by doing their job.
Give it to him straight. It's your life, and YOUR job. If you don't want to work in a place you're unhappy with (or you're at the retiring age) then ask him to let you resign again.
Maybe your boss is a jerk. Maybe he wants to keep you there so you're miserable forever. The last step? If all else fails, quit. People can't stop you from quitting can they?
Warnings
Keep your cool. If you go around shouting and breaking things, people will think you're crazy. Also, you could get sued for damaged property.
