This ferret doesn't need a bath
Steps
- Run water in the bathtub. Make sure the water is not too hot, not too cold. Ferrets hate extreme temperatures.
- Have your soap/shampoo ready. Use only ferret shampoo. Other shampoos may cause illnesses or cause eye irritation.
- Put the ferret carefully in the tub. Avoid getting it's face wet; especially the ears and eyes. Ears can get infected if water gets in them.
- Rub shampoo on the ferret's body thoroughly, not on the head. Take a damp cloth and go over the ferrets head, don't use shampoo on it.
- Wash the shampoo off quickly, rub it off well.
- Remove the ferret from the tub and dry it quickly. Let it run outside to dry off, use a towel, or get a toy specific for drying them off. (Yes, they do have those.)
- If the ferret has been good, reward them with a treat.
Tips
- Lay the ferret on its back and rub its tummy to calm it down if it becomes too stressed or agitated.
- Be sure to dry it off quickly!
- You may want to hold the ferret while you rinse it off or put shampoo on.
- Don't make the water too deep, but be aware that they are able to swim.
- If you take them outside, put on a leash/harness.
- Cut their nails and brush their fur after or before their bath.
Warnings
- Never wash a ferret that isn't yours. The ferret may be more aggressive if it does not know you.
- Don't let a ferret get too stressed out during a bath, give treats and calmness
- If you don't cut their nails, you may be scratched during the bath.
- Do not get their head wet! Use a damp cloth for their head. Ears and eyes may become infected/irritated.
